Shrimpfest 2026 in Gulf Shores: Your Guide to Festival Weekend

Shrimpfest 2026 in Gulf Shores: Your Guide to Festival Weekend

A plate of shrimp, live music near the beach, and a few days together on the Alabama coast. If that sounds like your kind of fall getaway, put Shrimpfest on your October calendar.

The Annual National Shrimp Festival returns to Gulf Shores October 8 through 11, 2026. Whether you’re coming for a day or making a vacation of it, a little planning can help you spend more time enjoying the festival and less time figuring out parking and transportation.

At PMI Gulf Shores, we manage vacation rentals in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Foley. Here’s what to know as you plan your visit.

When and Where Is Shrimpfest 2026?

The festival takes place at Gulf Shores Public Beach, where Highway 59 meets East Beach Boulevard.

  • Location: 101 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Plan a separate budget for food, drinks, shopping, and transportation. Visit the official Shrimp Festival website for event updates.

Come for the Shrimp, Stay for the Rest

Shrimp is the headline attraction, but there’s plenty to build a day around. The festival brings together seafood, live music on two stages, and shopping that includes fine art, jewelry, and handmade crafts.

Our suggestion: take a walk through the food area before choosing your first meal. Leave room to try something else later, and check the entertainment schedule before you arrive so you can plan around the performances you want to hear.

Traveling with someone who doesn’t eat seafood? The organizers also list options such as burgers, chicken, pizza, and other familiar favorites. See the festival FAQs for more visitor information.

Bringing the Kids? Build in Some Breathing Room

The festival’s Children’s Activity Village offers arts, crafts, games, and activities for younger visitors.

For a family outing, consider choosing a few priorities instead of trying to see everything in one visit. A meal, an activity, and some music may be the right amount before everyone needs a break.

Choose a meeting spot when you arrive, keep your phone charged, and think through how you’ll get back to your rental if part of the group wants to leave earlier. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hats, and a light layer are useful additions to your packing list. Check the forecast before heading out.

Plan Your Parking and Transportation Before You Leave

Festival parking deserves a little advance attention. The organizers describe nearby parking as first come, first served, with private property owners setting their own parking availability and fees.

Check the official parking, shuttle, and road closure page before your visit. It lists shuttle locations, operating hours, and transportation updates.

One detail matters especially for families: the currently posted shuttle information says children under five cannot ride the festival shuttle buses. Families with young children should arrange another way to reach the event. Thursday’s shuttle service also starts later than the festival itself, so check the schedule if you plan to arrive early.

Allow extra time for traffic, and only park where festival parking is permitted. If you’re considering walking from your rental, check the actual route and distance before making that your plan.

Where to Stay: Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, or Foley?

The right home base depends on how you want to spend the rest of your trip.

Gulf Shores is a good place to start if the festival is your main focus. Check each rental’s location carefully. A Gulf Shores address doesn’t automatically mean you can walk to the festival, and proximity may matter if you want to return for breaks.

Orange Beach gives you another coastal option for combining festival time with the rest of your beach vacation. Plan transportation to Gulf Shores and leave room in your schedule for traffic rather than relying on a fixed drive time.

Foley is worth considering if you want to stay away from the immediate festival crowds and drive down for the event. It can suit families who prefer some separation between a busy festival day and their place to unwind. You’ll still want to plan your route and allow extra travel time.

Whichever area you choose, look beyond the number of bedrooms. Consider sleeping arrangements, parking, and the amenities that will make your group comfortable.

Make Time for a Beach Getaway

You don’t need to spend every hour at the festival to enjoy the weekend.

Consider breakfast at your rental, a festival visit around lunch, and an evening built around music. On another day, leave time for the beach or a relaxed meal together. Giving your trip some flexibility lets everyone enjoy their favorite parts without feeling rushed.

Before heading out, review the festival rules. The organizers prohibit coolers and pets on the festival grounds. Check the official FAQs for the latest guidance.
